Big Data & Business Analytics
What does BIG mean?
Big data includes methods and technologies for the highly scalable registration, storage and analysis of poly-structured data. Hence, it is an interdisciplinary issue and encompasses tasks far beyond the horizon of conventional data analysis. This can have multiple reasons, may it be that data scales are not numerical or that sophisticated statistics need to be applied.
The decision making support is central to the issues, that are subordinate to the often cited three V’s (volume, variety and velocity). Certainly, volume is not the single key factor.
We received several awards in the context of classifying data analysis as well as the processing of textual information (Ernst-Zander-research award; VDW-award).
